When I officially turned You Define Beauty into a nonprofit organization, I knew I wanted to create something that would make a lasting impact on students’ mental health and self-worth. That’s when the idea for affirmation boxes was born. Each box contains over 350 handwritten, uplifting messages—lovingly crafted by high school and college students—designed to encourage, inspire, and remind others that they are never alone in what they’re feeling.
These boxes are placed in school counseling offices, giving students easy access to a boost of positivity whenever they need it most. Whether they’re having a tough day or just need a reminder of their worth, they can take a message that speaks directly to them.
So far, we’ve proudly distributed over 4,200 affirmation cards across 12 different schools—and we’re just getting started. Watching students light up when they read these messages is a powerful reminder of why this work matters. My goal is to expand this initiative even further, ensuring that every student, no matter where they are, has access to a simple but powerful reminder: they are enough, they are seen, and they are loved.
